David Gürkan studied law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main. After graduation, he completed his two-year legal clerkship in Frankfurt am Main and with a US law firm in New York (USA). Having passed the German Bar Exam, he worked on his doctoral thesis at the Philipps-University in Marburg, in order to obtain the Dr. iur. (Ph.D. equivalent), i.e. the doctorate level degree in law. In addition, he holds a Master’s degree (LL.M.), since completing postgraduate studies at the University of Edinburgh (UK). Moreover, he has been a Visiting Researcher at ULB Law School in Brussels (Belgium) while writing his doctoral thesis, and he has working experience with several international law firms, the European Commission in Brussels and as a federal official. His thesis, supervised by Professor Dr. Christoph J.M. Safferling, LL.M. (LSE), conducts research on legal topics within the fields of both criminal law and supervisory law.
