Erste Ausgabe – Die Arbeit wurde im Jahre 1862 von der Pariser Akademie mit dem berühmten Monthyon-Preis ausgezeichnet. Cohn (1827-1864) war Arzt in Breslau, die vorliegende Arbeit gilt als klassischer Beitrag zum Thema.
